Lasorda’s Bevacqua Rant

lasorda

Wally Backman’s masterful rant got me in the mood to dig up Tommy Lasorda’s eloquent response to the accusation that, as manager of the Dodgers, he was telling his pitchers to throw at various Padres.

NSFW due to profanity-laced wittiness.  Enjoy.

Fantastic Wally Backman Rant

backman

(NSFW due to sublime use of profanity.)

Currently the manager for the South Georgia Peanuts, Backman is widely know for his days with the NY Mets.  Here’s his bio for those who can’t quite place him.

We missed f*cking megasigns.

Where’s David Eckstein’s Plaque, Florida?

tebows-promise

This story about the “Tim Tebow Plaque” is neither new or very interesting, but I’m outraged that Tim Tebow has received this honor before alumni like Nobel Prize winning chemist Robert Grubbs or David freakin’ Eckstein.

Well, maybe just surprised.

Not New, But Not Not Funny

batproblem21

Don’t worry, it’s cool.  The guy who’s face is contorted like Fire Marshall Bill only suffered a broken rib.  You’re free to chuckle and guffaw at his misfortune and the other dude’s amazing confidence that he and his beer are out of harm’s way.

Not New, But Not Not Great: Photos of Drunken Athletes

drunk1

I’ve always wondered if Jimmy Johnson is a mean drunk and it’s nice to have that lingering doubt put to rest.

Unfortunately, they don’t have these archived in the Library of Congress, but the Drunk Athlete site does a pretty good job chronicling these Golden Gods.

Riveting Piece on Mike Piazza’s Bacne

piazza1

If there’s something I’ve always said, it’s that we need more investigative reporting into professional sports figures’ bacne.

For shame, NY Times, for shame.

Greg Counsell Gets His Due

counsell

The Onion and the Elias Sports Bureau nail down the best player in the Steroid Era of baseball.  Personally, I would have gone with David Eckstein, but they’re the Onion, so what are you going to do second guess them?

A Random Yogi Berraism

yogi

Yogi was once asked what he’d do if he found a million dollars. He replied:

“I’d find the fellow who lost it, and, if he was poor, I’d return it.”
